I also learned something very important-- large hoop earrings have a mind of their own and will totally tweak without your permission-- as witnessed in this picture!
But crazy jewelry aside, I had an absolute blast! And all of my pre-interview nerves immediately subsided the moment I sat beside Sandy, who is not only a great host, but is also one of the most amazing people I know. Seriously, she's a whirl wind of energy and warmth who made me feel so comfortable I forgot I was being filmed--which may or may not be a good thing-- we'll just have to wait and see when the show debuts on December 31st!
Also, in the exciting news department, I just learned that SAVING ZOE was chosen as one of TeenReads.com's "Best Books of 2007"--you can see the full list HERE.
And it's nominated, along with KISS & BLOG, for a CYBIL!
That's all for now! Have a good day everyone!

SAVING ZOE ON TV!!!
Hey Everyone-
I just learned that SAVING ZOE was mentioned on the CBS Early Show on a "Giving the Gift of Reading" segment as one of three books that was recommended for teens, and the cover is up on their site! Needless to say, I am over the moon with excitement!
You can see the post HERE.
Also, I'm on my way out the door to do an interview for a local cable channel! I'll be sure to post more details, and maybe even a clip, when I get them!
Have a great Sunday!

Give a Little Bit
Just as I was seriously lamenting the rampant commercialization of the holiday season (4 Am shopping anyone??), I received an e-mail from Cheryl Kaye Tardif, author of WHALE SONG, regarding THIS.
For those of you who don't want to click through, I will summarize by saying there's an organization called ALLIANCE FOR CHILDREN'S ENRICHMENT, or ACE for short, whose mission is to help less fortunate families. Each year they compile a list of of names, ages, and holiday gift wishes of children who live at poverty level, and apparently, the hardest category to fill is teens, many of whom will receive no gifts to open.
I'm already a supporter of several different charities, but what really struck me about this particular list is that these teens weren't asking for the latest iPhone or Juicy Couture handbag, they were asking for things like school supplies, and books! A few of them even asked for my books! And it tugged at my heart so much, I wasted no time in contacting the charity, to see how I could help.
I ended up sponsoring two different teens, and the joy I received while wrapping and sending those gifts--- was a gift in itself.

Blue Monday
This is a picture of the BEST SAXOPHONIST EVER!!! Seriously. This guy is amazing and I was lucky enough to see him play last Saturday night with the also amazing Johnny V. And, of course, as usual for me, I forgot his name mere seconds after learning it. . .but I think it's Walter. . .at any rate, he truly rocks, and if you get a chance to see them, don't hesitate, just GO!!
Also, I wanted to give thanks to everyone who showed up and volunteered for the Young Women's Health Conference on December 1, it was an amazing event, and all 140 participants went home with an autographed copy of SAVING ZOE!
Okay, back to work for me-- Have a good week everyone!

Hard Sun
So I just returned from a long, relaxing weekend in beautiful and sunny Scottsdale, Arizona where I hung by the pool, shopped a little, ate a lot, and saw lots of stuff like this:
And this:
And while I was there my awesome editor sent me the new cover for my May 2008 release, CRUEL SUMMER, and I absolutely LOVE it!! But since there may be a few minor tweaks I will wait for the final product before I post it here.
And the funny thing is, in the book, the main character, Colby, is faced with the prospect of moving to Arizona and she FREAKS! Whereas I really didn't want to leave because it's just so dang peaceful in the desert. . .
What about you-- what are some places you've visited that you were reluctant to leave?

Eight Alyson Factoids
I've been tagged! Actually, it was awhile ago (hey, I've been busy!), and THIS lady's to blame! But all it requires is for me to list eight of my most dirtiest little secrets, so here goes:
1) Birthday cake is medicinal. I’m completely convinced of this, which is why I never turn down a piece.
2) The first time I laid eyes on my husband I knew he was “the one” even though I didn’t believe in things like that at the time.
3) My husband and I once ordered fried crickets in a restaurant out of curiosity. They were very, very crispy.
4) Every time I watch Flight of the Conchords I secretly try to decide which one I’d choose as my desert Island companion—Brett or Jermaine??? I can never decide.
5) When I like a song, I tend to play it over and over (and over!) again.
6) I can’t pronounce the word “thing.” It comes out sounding like “theen.”
7) I eat pizza with a fork and knife, but only because I have an open bite (my front teeth don’t meet) and not because I’m trying to be all fancy.
8) I believe in silver linings.
Okay, now you know all about me--so now it's your turn--tell me something strange, wonderful, secret, or fascinating about YOU!

So I just learned that my next book-- CRUEL SUMMER-- is scheduled for a Spring/Summer 2008 release--and I couldn't be happier!

I had so much fun writing this book--and I hope you enjoy reading it! I'll be sure to post cover photos and news, as I receive them!

Left To Tell
Last night I had the privilege of seeing Immaculee Ilibagiza speak at a local high school and I was transformed by the experience. If you're unfamiliar with her story- this is the nut shell version:
In 1994, Rwandan native Ilibagiza was 22 years old and home from college to spend Easter with her family when the death of Rwanda's Hutu president sparked a three-month slaughter of nearly one million ethnic Tutsis. She survived by hiding in a Hutu pastor's tiny, 3 feet by 4 feet bathroom with seven other women for 91 days. When she finally emerged, weighing just 65 pounds, with only the clothes on her back- her family slaughtered, her home and all of her possessions destroyed- she managed to heal herself by doing the seemingly unimaginable-- forgiving her perpetrators.
Immaculees story is one of incredible perseverance--her message uplifting and inspiring-- and I left feeling grateful for EVERYTHING I have.
Her book, LEFT TO TELL, is one I can't wait to read!

I Luv Canada!!
I'm am so completely honored and excited to say that SAVING ZOE has been chosen as a "Favorite Read" by Ms. Emma-Lee Kramer, a Junior Advisory Board member for Canada's largest book retailer-- Chapters, Indigo, Coles!!! Which means not only did she write an AMAZING review that brought tears to my eyes, but that my book will be prominently displayed in all eighty stores!
Since I wrote SAVING ZOE after experiencing a period of profound grief--losing three people I loved in very short succession, and facing the serious illness of others-- I couldn't be happier than to know that this story is reaching an audience. . .
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you Emma!
To read her awesome review click HERE
Her Name is Rio and She. . .???
How would you finish the title of this post? Would you say--
A) Dances on the Sand . . .
B) Is an Art Geek . . .
C) Is a Prom Queen. . .
Well, if you read the book than that question may not be all that tough-- but I just came across a quiz that an ART GEEKS AND PROM QUEENS expert (and no, it wasn't me!) put together and it's both fun and tough-- I just took it myself and actually had to stop and think about some of those answers!!
So, if you're up for playing just click HERE!
And then come back and let me know how you scored!
Good Luck!

First Kiss (Then Tell)
I’m so excited to be part of the upcoming anthology, FIRST KISS (THEN TELL)——along with a list of amazing authors like: Deb Caletti, Cecil Castellucci, David Levithan, Lauren Myracle, and more (!)—-all of us confessing the sordid details of our first kiss moments!
Now I admit, when I was first approached to do this, the second after I said YES! I panicked.
Seriously panicked.
Thinking—no way can I tell that story!
I mean, I’d successfully banished it from my memory bank, blocked it out for a reason. But, as they say, truth really is stranger than fiction—or in my case more humbling, more desperate, more overall embarrassing!
So if you’re up for reading all the cringe worthy details—-then you’ll be glad to know that it's scheduled for release on December 26, 2007—(what better way to use those bookstore gift cards?) But you can get a head start by pre-ordering now! Either HERE or HERE!
And just so you know, I recently got hold of an advanced copy—and those stories do not disappoint!
Have a good day!

And The Winner Is. . .
No, I'm not posting about the Emmy awards, I'm referring to promo week over at the Teen Fiction Cafe- where I promised an autographed copy to one randomly chosen commenter.
Well, this is how we did it- I engaged in blatant self-promotion, people commented, I wrote all of their names down on a piece of scrap paper (I'm big on recycling), cut them into several small strips, folded them each in half, dumped them into a baseball cap, and asked my husband to close his eyes and pick one--
And he picked Juliann!!!!
Yay!
(I really hope she likes it!)

Every Picture Tells A Story
Where I met some interesting people--
Donated SAVING ZOE to the library in memory of a dear friend - (as I do with all my books)
Saw lots of these- (though most of them were alive!)
None of these:
A few of these-- although this one's (by far) the best!
Co-piloted one of these--
Okay, maybe I just sat up front. . .
And then, before I knew it, it was time to go home. . .
Good bye Kodiak-- Thanks for a wonderful time!
